The game's story is constantly evolving and never really felt like just doing the motions until the big finale that so many RPGs bog down to for me. There is terrorism, cults, political intrigue, romance, conspiracies, traitors, and many other interesting events. Secondly the story which made the game feel like it had a living world. Compared to previous entries, some characters also had pretty fleshed out personalities, perhaps not as much as Fire Emblem does today, but certainly more than games in the genre of the time. I mean you had a mixture of robots, humans, centaurs, penguins, birds, dragons, lions, etc. Shining Force for me always had really nice character art since the first game on Genesis.

The game wasn't just a quantum leap above other SRPGs at the time, but I think even today nothing has really put all the pieces together in a way like SF3 although the Valkyria Chronicles series comes close in some ways (in particular VC3, something about Sega making excellent third numbered titles in series).įirst of all I think the character designs themselves are excellent and pleasing to look at.
